# Plan usage (/platform/account/plan-usage)



Every plan includes usage of [Quant](/platform/quant/introduction), our coding agent, and the [Strategy Screener](/platform/ai-backtesting/introduction). Plan usage is measured over two windows, a 5-hour session and a week, and both refill on their own. On a paid plan, [extra usage](#extra-usage) keeps you going when plan usage runs out.

## How it works [#how-it-works]

* **The session.** Your first message starts a 5-hour session. Session usage refills 5 hours after the session started.
* **The week.** Weekly usage resets for everyone every Friday at 5:00 PM ET, shown in your own time zone.
* **One pool.** Quant and the Strategy Screener draw from the same plan usage.
* **Usage follows the request.** Bigger requests and longer conversations use more, because the whole conversation is context for every new message, so start a new chat when you move to an unrelated script.
* **Compile fixes don't count.** Compile errors Quant fixes in the same reply don't count toward your usage.
* **Plan changes.** When you subscribe or change plans, your limits follow the new plan. When a paid plan ends, they drop to Free's.

## Big builds [#big-builds]

Before a big build, Quant shows a plan: the parts it will write, about how many lines, and about what share of your session and week it will use.

* **When Quant waits.** If a build would use 10% or more of your session, or 5% or more of your week, Quant waits for **Build it** or **Make it smaller**. Smaller builds start right away, at full size.
* **A live checklist.** While Quant works, a checklist ticks off each part as it compiles.
* **Split scripts.** A build too big to load quickly as one script is split into a few.

## Not charged and paused replies [#not-charged-and-paused-replies]

A line under a Quant reply tells you when it wasn't charged or why it stopped:

* **Not charged: Quant hit an error before answering.** The message didn't count toward your usage.
* **Paused to check in. Continue to keep going.** On a long reply, Quant stops to check in. Its work so far is kept. Click **Continue** to pick up where it stopped.
* **Reaching a limit mid-reply.** If you reach your session or weekly limit while Quant is answering, it finishes the reply within a small margin, and that counts toward your week. Your next message waits for the reset, or, on a paid plan, goes on to extra usage.

When you've reached a limit, a notice above the prompt says when it resets. On a paid plan, **Continue with extra usage** keeps you going now; on Free, **Upgrade** shows the plans.

## Extra usage [#extra-usage]

On a paid plan, extra usage keeps Quant going past your plan usage instead of pausing until the reset. It's a prepaid dollar balance, bought in one click and managed on the **Usage** page ([app.luxalgo.com/account/usage](https://app.luxalgo.com/account/usage)).

You can also add any amount from $10 to $2,000.

* **On by default.** Extra usage is on unless you turn it off. Plan usage is always used first.
* **Monthly limit.** Optionally set a monthly limit on what extra usage can spend.
* **Auto-reload.** Off unless you turn it on. When your balance falls below the amount you choose, it adds more from your saved card, and it never goes past your monthly limit.
* **No expiry.** Your extra usage balance doesn't expire.

### Credits you bought before [#credits-you-bought-before]

Credit packs you bought became extra usage at the price you paid. A partly used pack carried over its unused share.

## Referrals [#referrals]

Referrals on the **Referrals** page ([app.luxalgo.com/account/referrals](https://app.luxalgo.com/account/referrals)) work as "Give $20, get $20". When a friend you referred upgrades, you each get $20 of extra usage, or $50 each when they choose a yearly plan. Your friend's arrives with their first payment; yours arrives after the 30-day refund window.

Referral rewards expire 12 months after you earn them, and they work on Free too: once Free plan usage runs out, Quant can keep going on your referral rewards.
