# Desktop app (/platform/getting-started/desktop)

Vela for desktop uses the same LuxAlgo account, plan and saved workspaces as Vela in your browser. Download the app for your computer from [Vela for desktop](https://www.luxalgo.com/desktop/).

## Install and sign in [#install-and-sign-in]

Choose the download for your operating system and processor. The download page lists the current version and all available files.

| System | Download and open |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **macOS 13 or later** | Choose Apple silicon or Intel. Open the `.dmg`, then drag Vela to **Applications**. In the Apple menu, **About This Mac** lists a **Chip** for Apple silicon or a **Processor** for Intel. |
| **Windows 10 or later** | Run the installer for x64 and Arm64; it selects the build for your PC. |
| **Linux** | Choose x64 or Arm64. Make the AppImage executable and open it, or install the `.deb` or `.rpm` with your package manager. |

Open Vela and sign in with your existing LuxAlgo account. Your saved workspaces are available without importing them. You can also start with a single chart without signing in; multiple workspace windows and multi-chart layouts need a free account.

## Workspace windows [#workspace-windows]

When signed in, each saved [workspace](/platform/workspaces) opens in its own window. Move windows between your monitors to arrange your setup. When you reopen Vela, the windows return to their previous positions.

A window can also contain [workspace tabs](/platform/workspaces/tabs) and [multi-chart layouts](/platform/charts/introduction#layouts). Tabs and chart cells stay inside the window; the shortcuts below open or switch separate app windows.

| Action | Mac | Windows and Linux |
| --------------------------- | ---------------- | ----------------- |
| New chart window | `⌘N` | `Ctrl+N` |
| Open a copy in a new window | `⇧⌘N` | `Ctrl+Shift+N` |
| Next window | <code>⌘\`</code> | `Ctrl+Tab` |
| Ask Quant | `⌘J` | `Ctrl+J` |

The usual [chart shortcuts](/platform/charts/shortcuts&#x29; work in the app too. Press &#x2A;*?** with the chart focused to see the shortcuts panel.

## Menu-bar and tray watchlist [#menu-bar-and-tray-watchlist]

Open Vela's menu-bar icon on Mac, or its system-tray icon on Windows and Linux, to reach your watchlist. Click a market to open it on the chart. You can pin up to three markets: their prices appear in the Mac menu bar, the Windows tray icon's tooltip, or the top of the Linux tray menu.

## Native alert notifications [#native-alert-notifications]

Choose **In-app** under **Send to** when [creating or editing an alert](/platform/ai-strategy-alerts/creating-alerts). While Vela is running and you are signed in, a Price Alert or Custom Alert with this destination can appear as a notification from the desktop app. Your operating system's notification settings still apply.

Click a notification to open its market and interval on the chart at the time the alert fired. These native notifications use **In-app** delivery; **Browser notifications** is a separate destination for supported web browsers. See [Notifications and Destinations](/platform/ai-strategy-alerts/notifications).
