# Watch mode (/platform/quant/watch-mode)

Ask Quant, our coding agent, to keep an eye on the market for you. It turns your request into a **watch**: a condition the chart checks as bars close. When the condition hits, Quant takes a turn in the same chat on its own: it looks at the chart, explains what happened, and suggests what to do next.

## Ask for a watch [#ask-for-a-watch]

Say what to watch in your own words. For example:

* "Watch for a close above yesterday's high and explain it when it happens."
* "Tell me when RSI crosses back above 30 on this chart."
* "Watch my strategy's entry condition and tell me when it triggers."
* "Check in with me at the New York open."

A watch can look for:

| Condition | What it checks |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Price** | Price crossing, closing beyond, holding above or below, or touching a level. A level can be a number or the high or low of yesterday, today so far, overnight, the Asia session or the London session. |
| **Zone** | Price entering a zone, leaving it, or closing inside it. |
| **Indicator** | A plot of a script on the chart crossing, or holding above or below, a value or another plot of the same script. |
| **Candle pattern** | A bullish or bearish engulfing bar, an inside-bar breakout, or a sweep of a level that closes back beyond it within a few bars. |
| **Session** | The start or end of a session: the New York, London, Asia and CME Globex opens, the New York close, the killzones and the macros, in New York time. |
| **Time** | A time of day, on the weekdays you choose. |

One watch can combine up to six conditions, where all of them must hold or any one is enough. A watch can fire once, or keep watching and fire again after a cooldown (15 minutes unless you ask for another). Price and zone watches can also fire on the forming bar instead of waiting for its close.

## Start it [#start-it]

Quant doesn't start a watch on its own. It shows a card in the chat, **Quant suggests a watch**, that spells out what it checks, how often, and what happens when it fires. Read it, then choose **Start watching**, or **Dismiss** to drop it. When Quant suggests a change to a watch, the card shows the new version; **Dismiss** keeps your current one.

## Manage your watches [#manage-your-watches]

The **Watching** pill in the Quant panel opens the list of watches in this workspace, with the status of each: running, paused, finished, or when it last fired. From the list, **Pause**, **Resume**, **Watch again** or **Delete** a watch. You can also ask Quant to pause or clear watches; those changes apply at once.

To see your watches while the Quant panel is closed, add the **Quant watch** [header widget](/platform/workspaces/tabs#add-header-widgets).

* Up to **12 watches** per workspace, **6** running at once.
* A watch reads the market data your plan covers, the same as any chart.

## When a watch fires [#when-a-watch-fires]

Quant posts **Watch triggered** in the chat with the bar that fired it, and takes a turn to look at the chart. If the Quant panel is closed, it opens. If Quant is still replying, the watch waits until the chat is free.

Each turn a watch starts counts toward your [Quant usage](/platform/account/plan-usage) like a message you send. Watches start at most **6 turns an hour**, all watches together. When you're out of usage, the watch still fires and says so, but Quant doesn't start a turn.

### Trades wait for you [#trades-wait-for-you]

With [Paper Trading](/platform/quant/trading), a watch can carry a plan for one trade, for example "if it closes above yesterday's high, propose a long with a stop under the bar". When it fires, Quant puts that trade on an order card for you to approve. A watch never places an order on its own, and orders proposed in a chat a watch has woken always wait on their cards.

## Keep the chart open [#keep-the-chart-open]

Watches run in your browser: they check while this chart is open in a browser tab and the device stays awake. Close the tab and they stop checking until you open it again. Phones pause tabs in the background. If the same chart is open in two tabs, one of them runs the watches.

## Teach mode [#teach-mode]

Turn on **Teach mode** from **+** beside the prompt. Quant then explains the why behind every step: what it saw, which condition fired, and why it would or wouldn't propose a trade.
