# Coding agents (/vela/user/coding-agents)

Vela™ and its UI kit ship what a coding agent needs to use them well, inside the npm packages,
so the guidance always matches the installed version:

* **Agent skills** in the open Agent Skills format: short instructions an agent loads when a
  task matches them, with the rules that prevent the common mistakes and the checks that prove
  the work.
* **The docs**: `node_modules/@luxalgo/vela/docs` and `node_modules/@luxalgo/vela-ui/docs`.
* **An `llms.txt` index** in each package, listing the skills, the guides and the reference.
* **The component manifest**: `node_modules/@luxalgo/vela-ui/dist/manifest.json`, every
  component's import, props, parts, settings and an example.

## Install the skills [#install-the-skills]

```bash
npx skills add LuxAlgo/Vela        # from the repository, in any project
npx skills experimental_sync       # or link the ones shipped in node_modules
```

`experimental_sync` reads the packages your project depends on: installing `@luxalgo/vela`
brings the UI kit's skills along with Vela's own. Both commands come from the open-source
`skills` CLI and support the common coding agents.

## Point your agent at the packages [#point-your-agent-at-the-packages]

Agents that read an `AGENTS.md` file pick up a note like this one. `npx @luxalgo/vela-ui add`
offers to write the UI kit's part for you.

```md
## Vela
Before writing chart code, read `node_modules/@luxalgo/vela/llms.txt`, and before writing UI
with the kit, `node_modules/@luxalgo/vela-ui/llms.txt`: they index the skills, guides and
reference of the installed versions.
```

## How the skills stay accurate [#how-the-skills-stay-accurate]

The skills live in the Vela repository next to the code they describe. Its test suite checks
every skill against the Agent Skills specification and checks that every file a skill points
an agent at ships in the package. Their examples are typechecked against the release.
