Workspace Tabs

Open chart and view tabs, save their setup with your workspace, arrange a split view, and add header widgets.

View as Markdown

Workspace tabs keep several chart layouts and views within one Vela window. Sign in and open your own workspace in a desktop-width window to use the tab strip beside Quant.

Save and restore tabs

Every chart tab saves with your workspace, including its markets, chart layout, indicators, drawings, sync options, and chart panels. When you reload or return to the workspace, Vela restores the tab names and order, open view tabs, selected tab, and split view.

A small checkmark briefly appears on a chart tab's logo when a change to that tab's chart is saved. The first chart tab stays first and cannot be closed; the other chart tabs save too.

Each chart tab keeps its own setup. Timezone, drawing-tool defaults and favorites, account-starred timeframes, and your plan's history depth are shared. Changing the timezone in one tab applies it to the others.

Tabs restored in the background load their charts when you open them. Opening the workspace on a phone or in a narrow window preserves its saved extra tabs even though that window does not show the tab strip.

Open and organize tabs

  1. Select + beside the tabs, then New chart….
  2. Choose a market in Symbol Search to open its chart in a new tab.
  3. To copy the chart tab in front, choose Duplicate this chart from +, or right-click a chart tab and choose Duplicate.

The same + panel offers Journal and Watchlist. Watchlist opens its Advanced view. Portfolio is available with the trading panel; it shows account value, positions, orders, and other account details. Opening a view that is already present returns to that tab.

Drag tabs to reorder them. Double-click a name, or right-click and choose Rename, to give a tab a name. Close a tab with its close control or middle-click. Undo after closing, or +, then Reopen closed tab, restores a recently closed tab during this visit.

Hover over a tab to see its market, timeframe, and preview. When the strip fills up, background tabs become compact. Use All tabs to search for a chart or view by name.

Performance

Loaded chart tabs can keep running in the background. Several loaded tabs, especially those with multi-chart layouts or many indicators, can use more memory and processing power.

Vela limits how many chart tabs stay loaded. Less recently used charts may unload and load again when you return, keeping their setup.

If Vela feels slower, close chart tabs you no longer need or simplify their layouts and indicators. Leave a tab open while Quant is working on it.

Show two views together

Open one tab, right-click another, and choose Split with current tab. You can also drag a background tab down over the content area and choose a side. Drag the divider to adjust the space.

A split can pair a chart with Journal, Watchlist, or Portfolio, or pair two of those views. It cannot pair two chart tabs. To see multiple charts together, use the chart's layout picker within one chart tab.

Right-click a tab in the split for End split view. Swap sides is available when the first chart tab is not fixed on the left.

Quant stays with its chart

Quant's mark identifies the chart tab its current run is working on. Switching to another tab does not redirect that run's chart changes. Quant can keep working on its original chart in the background. Closing that tab stops its remaining chart actions from being applied, so leave it open until the run finishes if you want those changes.

Add header widgets

Open +, then Widgets to add small readouts beside the tabs. Market widgets include Price, Watchlist tape, Market stats, Next event, and Sessions. Nothing is added by default.

For Price or Market stats, choose whether to follow the chart in front or show a particular market. Drag widgets to reorder them, or right-click one to move or remove it. Widget choices are saved in this browser, separately from the tabs saved with your workspace.

Keyboard shortcuts

Use Option on Mac or Alt on Windows/Linux for these shortcuts when you are not typing in an input:

ActionShortcut
New chart tabOption/Alt + T
Open tab 1–9Option/Alt + 1–9
Close the active tab, except the first chart tabOption/Alt + W
Reopen a closed tabOption/Alt + Shift + T

With focus in the tab strip, Left/Right moves focus, Enter opens the focused tab, and Home/End moves to the ends. Option/Alt + Shift + Left/Right reorders the focused tab.
