About Quant

What is Quant?

Quant is our coding agent and the intelligence inside LuxAlgo, built into Vela, our next-generation charting platform. It reads your chart, writes and repairs indicator and strategy code, proves it against history, and runs what you approve. It also works the chart itself: it sets up the symbol, timeframe, and layout, marks up levels and zones, and reads exact prices. See What is Quant?

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Ask in your own words or attach a screenshot. Quant writes real Pine Script® that you can inspect and edit in the Pine editor if you want to, and never have to read if you don't.

Do I need an account?

You can open Vela and browse a chart without one. Sign in to run scripts, keep your chat history, and find your scripts later in My Scripts.

What does Quant cost?

Quant is on every plan, including Free. Every plan includes Quant usage over a 5-hour session and a week, shared with the Strategy Screener: Essential has 3× Free's, Premium 5× Free's, Ultimate 2× Premium's, and AI Ultra 8× Premium's. Paid plans can keep going on extra usage, a prepaid balance. Quant code repair is included with Premium, Ultimate, and AI Ultra. See Plan usage and Plans.

Does Quant give trading advice?

Quant analyzes setups, including what would confirm or invalidate them. It doesn't give personal financial advice or promise outcomes, and it treats a backtest as history, not a forecast.

Drawing on the chart

Where do the prices in Quant's drawings come from?

From your chart's own candles. Quant places each drawing on the candles that formed it, using closed candles only, and each label shows its level, so you can check any drawing against your chart. See Drawing on the chart.

Will Quant change or delete my own drawings?

No. Clear Quant's drawings and any removal you ask for only apply to what Quant drew. Your drawings stay.

Why did Quant refuse to mark up my chart?

The usual reasons:

  • The chart is on Heikin Ashi, whose candles aren't real prices. Switch to candles and ask again.
  • The chart hasn't finished loading, or doesn't have enough closed candles yet. Wait a moment and ask again; keep the Vela tab in front while Quant works on the chart.
  • The chart already holds 150 of Quant's drawings. Clear some first.
Do Quant's drawings update when new bars arrive?

No. A markup is analysis of the chart at the moment you asked. For something that updates on every bar, drives alerts, or can be backtested, ask for an indicator or a strategy. See Draw or write a script?

Does Quant draw on every market?

Yes, on any market Vela charts. Day-based levels follow each market's trading day: CME futures roll at 18:00 New York, spot forex at 17:00, stocks by calendar date, and crypto by the UTC day. Opening gaps only exist on markets that halt, so Quant tells you when a 24/7 market has none.

The chart

Which chart does Quant work on?

The active chart, the one you last clicked, unless you name another chart in the layout. New scripts always go on the active chart.

Can Quant change my chart's symbol or timeframe?

Yes. Ask for the symbol, timeframe, chart type, session, price scale, visible range, or layout, and Quant changes it. Your indicators and scripts stay on the chart. See Working the chart.

Can Quant see my chart?

Yes. Quant looks at the chart to see what it shows before answering a question about it, and to check that a change or a script looks right. For exact numbers, it reads the chart's data instead. See Read exact chart data.

Does Quant work in Replay Mode?

Yes. In Replay Mode, Quant reads the chart as of the replay point.

Scripts and backtests

Where are the scripts Quant writes?

On the chart, and saved to your account. Find them in Indicators under My Scripts, next to the scripts you saved yourself. There's no separate step to commit them to the workspace.

Can one chat handle several scripts?

Yes. One chat can create, edit, and remove several indicators and strategies. Name the script you want to change when the chat has more than one. See Several scripts in one chat.

Can Quant edit a LuxAlgo Library indicator?

It can add any Library indicator your plan includes. It can customize free Library indicators, saving the result as your own script. Paid Library indicators keep their code protected: Quant can change their inputs or remove them, but not read or edit their code.

Can I change a script's settings without new code?

Yes. Ask "try length 21" and Quant changes the input; the script re-runs with the new value. Values are checked against what the input accepts before anything changes.

Can Quant backtest a strategy?

Yes. A strategy runs on the chart's history, Quant reports the headline numbers, and the Backtest Viewer has Performance, Trades Analysis, Trades Log, and Simulation tabs. See Making strategies.

Is a simulation a prediction?

No. Simulation replays the backtest's own closed trades to show how repeatable the results are and how much the order of trades matters. It can't show market conditions the backtest never saw. See Simulation.

Limits

The limits that apply to Quant on your charts. Plan allowances, such as Quant plan usage, are on Plans.

Drawings

LimitValue
Drawings per requestUp to 60. Ask for fewer concepts or a smaller count to see the rest.
Quant's drawings on one chartUp to 150 at a time. Past that, Quant asks you to remove some first.
Candles usedClosed candles only. The candle still forming is never drawn from.
Chart typesCandles and other real-price types. Heikin Ashi, or any type whose candles aren't real prices, is refused: switch to candles and ask again.

A markup that is stopped, fails, or is interrupted by a symbol or timeframe change is taken back in full: nothing half-drawn stays on the chart, and a redraw that doesn't finish leaves the earlier markup in place. See Drawing on the chart.

Script settings

Values Quant sets are checked against each input's type, options, and min/max. If a value doesn't fit, nothing changes. See Working the chart.

Chart changes

ChangePlan
Preset timeframes (1m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 4h, 1D, 1W, 1M)Every plan

CME futuresPaid plans
Multi-chart layouts, up to 16 chartsEvery plan, signed in

When a change isn't in your plan, Quant tells you instead of making it.

Scripts

LimitValue
Tools per chartUnlimited on every plan, including Quant scripts
DeclarationsOne indicator() or strategy() per script. library() scripts and import statements can't run on a chart.
Saved script lengthUp to 200,000 characters. See Pine editor.
Paid Library indicatorsQuant can add them on plans that include them, change their inputs, and remove them, but can't read or edit their code
Library indicatorsAdded as published. If one fails on Vela, Quant tells you instead of editing it.

Messages and usage

LimitValue
Message lengthUp to 100,000 characters, including any code you paste
Message rateUp to 20 messages per minute and 600 per 24 hours, per account
Replies at onceUp to 3 replies using plan usage or extra usage across your chats
Plan usageMeasured over a 5-hour session and a week, shared with the Strategy Screener. A message that fails before Quant answers isn't charged, and compile errors fixed in the same reply don't count. See Plan usage.
Big buildsA plan with the parts, about how many lines, and about what share of your session and week. Quant waits for Build it or Make it smaller when a build would use 10% or more of your session or 5% or more of your week.
Long chatsEach new request carries the conversation so far. Quant trims older tool results and compacts very long chats, but long chats still use your plan usage faster. Start a new chat for a new idea.
Steps per messageUp to 40. Then the reply pauses to check in; press Continue to keep going.
Web searchesUp to 2 per reply, only when the answer depends on outside facts that change.

Message-rate and simultaneous-reply limits apply on every plan, separately from your 5-hour and weekly usage. Follow the retry message if you reach a message-rate limit, or wait for a running reply to finish if three are already in progress. Requests blocked by these limits do not use plan usage or extra usage.
